Woodfin - Hazel Louise McFalls Garren, 88, of Woodfin, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 19, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. A native of Mitchell County, Mrs. Garren had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She worked for a time as an Inspector with Vanderbilt Shirt Company, and was of the Baptist faith. A loving mother and Mamaw, Mrs. Garren enjoyed working in her flowers, but her grandchildren were her life. Mrs. Garren was the daughter of the late Thomas Clayton and Bessie Louise Tolley McFalls, and the wife of Clarence Edward Garren, who passed away in 1961. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Marie Varnadore; six sisters and five brothers. Surviving are her daughters: Kathy Kelley and husband Jack, Sandra Carr and husband Robert, and Debbie Garren; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; nine great, great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Shaun Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Old Salem Church Cemetery in Fletcher. The family will receive friends from 7:00 9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Garren, 75 Springbrook Road, Asheville, NC 28804.
