Asheville - Harry Donald Don Trantham, 72, of 2805 Sagamore Lane died Sunday October 5, 2003 at the Mountain Area Hospice following a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was the former owner & operator of the Merrimon Avenue Shell Station before retiring in 1972 due to health. He was a son of the late Lonnie Grady Trantham and Fannie Miller Trantham Pinner. He was also preceded in death by a son, Lonnie G. Trantham; brother, Lonnie Trantham and sister, Kathleen Trantham Sexton. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Hughes Trantham of the home; daughter, Vickie Trantham Carter and husband, Dwight of Candler; sons, Donnie Trantham and wife, Brenda of Candler, Gary Trantham of Asheville and Ross Trantham and wife, Patsy of Candler; daughter in law, Deborah R. Trantham of Leicester; brother, Harold Trantham of Asheville; mother in law, Jeanette Hughes of Asheville; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. Burial will be held at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813.
