Harold Vernon Campbell

Asheville - Harold Vernon Campbell, 74, of 15 Holly Drive died Friday September 28, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Tampa, Fl., he first came to Asheville in 1967 where he served as a Postal Service Officer and later served as Postmaster and Western North Carolina Sectional Center Manager. After serving as Deputy Manager of Logistics in Memphis, Tn., he returned to Asheville in 1983 upon his retirement from the postal service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Asheville, a member of Oasis Temple and The Land of the Sky Shrine Club, a charter member of the Second Chance Cardiac rehabilitation Program and a volunteer councilor for Mission St. Joseph Heart Center for the last 17 years. He was a son of the late George and Elva Lyman Campbell and the husband of the late Betty Blount Campbell. Surviving are his son, Larry Campbell of Birmingham, Al.; Daughter, Gaye Campbell Stell and husband, Lynn of Woodstock, Ga.; brothers, Richard Campbell of Atlanta, Ga. and Roger W. Campbell of Asheville; grandchildren, Adam L. Campbell, Susan E. Campbell, Matthew B. Stell and Laura Kathryn Stell. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church of Asheville with Rev. Pete Peery oficiating. The family will receive friends following services at the church. Asheville, N.C. 28801 or to: First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 40 Church St., Asheville, N.C. 28801. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
