Harold Reese Debruhl

December 28, 1924 — July 30, 2004

Asheville - Harold Reese DeBruhl, 79, of 264 Smith Road went to be with his Lord Friday July 30, 2004 at his home following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired as President of the DeBruhl Agency with whom he was affiliated with for over 40 years. He was a Real Estate Broker and Consultant and was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and numerous activities and functions of the church. Mr. DeBruhl was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He was past Commander of N.C. Amvet Association, past President of Erwin Lions Club, former member of West Asheville Business Association and former member of Board of Directors of Eliada Home. He was the author of My Beloved Woodfin, past Chairman of the Buncombe County Democratic Party, past Lt. Governor of the Optimist Club, a past member of the West Buncombe and Erwin HS School Board and a Licensed N.C. Auctioneer. He was a son of the late William Leroy and Lavasta Reese DeBruhl and the youngest of 10 children. He was also preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mattie Ella Rhodes DeBruhl ; sons, Jimmy Reese DeBruhl and wife Alana of Canton and Kim DeBruhl and wife Pam of Asheville; grandchildren, Jeremy and Jillian DeBruhl both of Asheville and several nieces and nephews.. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be in the Sluder Cemetery with Charles Fore, Tom Rhodes, Jack Penley, Lloyd Cutshall, Jeremy DeBruhl and Otto DeBruhl serving as pallbearers. The Fervent Mens Sunday School Class and Deacons of Victory Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and at other times at the residence. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the love and kindness shown to our family by Mountain Area Hospice and VHP. Memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church, Building Fund, 80 Olivette Road, Asheville, NC. 28804.
