Grady M. Snider, Sr.

December 12, 1924 — January 29, 2012

Asheville Grady Melvin Snider, Sr., 87, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in October 2011 following 44 years as a N.C. licensed Auctioneer, where known to his fellow Auctioneers as Col. Snider. Mr. Snider was an honorary member of the Asheville West Rotary Club and past president of the West Asheville Business Association. He was a member of the VFW Post #891, a 1943 graduate of Fairview High School and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart while fighting at the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Snider was a son of the late Melvin Walter Snider and Nettie Naomi Whitaker Snider and husband of Selma Louise Hughes Snider who died August 25, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his son, Grady Melvin Butch Snider, Jr. who died August 27, 1985, half brother, Luther Hallman and half sister, Ruth Riddle. Surviving are his daughters, Judy Neely of Asheville and Tammie Isgett and husband Stephen of Fletcher; twin grandsons, Tyler and Tim Isgett; sister, Edna Camacho of Miami, FL; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 6 P.M. Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. David Blackmon officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home. Memorial graveside services will be held 12 Noon Friday at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team and the NC National Guard Honor Guard.
