Asheville - Grady Franklin Edens, 68 of 96 Skyview Terrace died Sunday December 22, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital after an extended illness. A native of York S.C., he had lived in Asheville since 1978. He had been a member of St. Pauls United Methodist church since 1984 and was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a son of Ithiel Summerlin Edens of Charlotte and the late Grady Franklin Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his father, Rev. Fletcher Edens; mother, Geneva Johnson and sister, Ernestine Powell. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife: Virginia Edens of the home; daughters, Tracy Bryson and husband Jeff of Gastonia, Cherie Brock and husband Michael of Asheville and Tina Hughes of Asheville; sisters, Judy Metz, Rossie Carnes and Jean Little; brothers, Carlie Strickland and Mike Edens; grandchildren, Cassie Bryson, Kaylyn Bryson, Caleb Brock and Seth Brock. He is survived by wonderful friends and family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Skipper Watwood officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
