GRADIE GASAWAY WHITTEMORE, 86, OF 14 VINEWOOD CIRCLE DIED TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2001 AT HER HOME AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. A NATIVE OF JACKSON COUNTY. SHE HAD RESIDED IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY FOR MOST OF HER LIFE. SHE WAS A HOMEMAKER AND DEVOTED WIFE, MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER. MRS. WHITTEMORE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE VICTOR LEE AND BEULAH BELL WOMACK GASAWAY AND THE WIFE OF REV. TALMADGE E. WHITTEMORE WHO DIED ON FEBRUARY 14, 2001. SHE WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY 3 GRANDCHILDREN AND 3 BROTHERS. SURVIVING ARE HER DAUGHTERS, NORMA MORGAN AND HUSBAND, PAUL OF ASHEVILLE, AND LOIS CAPPS AND HUSBAND, WAYNE OF EASLEY, S.C.; SONS, JOHN WHITTEMORE AND WIFE, ELSA OF PENROSE, ROY WHITTEMORE OF FLETCHER AND ALDEN WHITTEMORE AND WIFE, BETTY OF CANDLER; SISTERS, MAUDE GRIFFIN OF CANDLER, ETHEL BAINES OF ELKTON, MARYLAND, RUBY DAVIS OF SOLWAY, TENNESSEE AND MARIE PITTS OF WHITTIER; BROTHERS, RAYMOND GASAWAY OF CANDLER, LEWIS GASAWAY OF POWELL, TENNESSEE, AND FRANK GASAWAY OF BRYSON CITY; 5 GRANDCHILDREN, 8 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, 2 GREAT GREAT GRANDSONS; SPECIAL FRIENDS AND EXTENDED FAMILY, ROBIN WALTON AND HER DAUGHTER, RACHEL OF THE HOME. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 10:30 AM SATURDAY AT THE WOODFIN CHURCH OF GOD OF WHICH SHE WAS A MEMBER WITH THE REV. DENNIS PITTS, REV. RONALD DODSON AND MRS. LOIS CAPPS OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN BIG IVY CEMETERY, BARNARDSVILLE. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS FROM 7 UNTIL 9 PM FRIDAY AT ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME.
