Golen "Mamaw" Rice

Asheville - Golen MaMaw Pearlie Biddix Rice, 85, of 32 North Ann St. died Thursday September 12, 2002 at the Mt. Areas Hospice Solace Center after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Asheville, she retired from the Hot Shot Cafe after 25 years of service. She was a daughter of the late John and Edith Biddix and the wife of the late Steve Rooster Rice. She was also preceded in death by her son Steve Rice. Surviving are her daughters, Mary Mathes of the home and Louise Rice of Asheville; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed by many. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Brockwell officiating. Burial will be in Elk Mountain Cemetery.
