Cumming, GA - Glenn Blankenship, 82, of Cumming, GA, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007. He was a World War II US Navy Veteran and member of the 704 Club. He was aboard the aircraft carrier, The USS Franklin, in the South Pacific when it was bombed. Out of 3300 men, only 704 escaped, hence the name of the club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Govan and Grace Blankenship, and a brother, Wayne Blankenship. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Nettie McAbee Blankenship, of Cumming; daughter, Rhonda Houston and husband Ben of Cumming; grandchildren: Meredith Carr and Dr. Aaron Carr of Decatur, and Adam Houston and wife Leslie of Cumming; great-granddaughter, Evi Grace Houston of Cumming; and brother, Harold Blankenship of Burnsville. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Thursday at Cane Creek Cemetery, with the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
