Gladys Irene Buckner

Asheville - Gladys Irene Hembree Buckner, 81, of 289 Brickyard Road died Thursday February 14, 2002 at St. Josephs Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Cherokee, Co., she resided in Buncombe Co. since 1927. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed with American Enka, Corp.. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and the Margaret Roberts Sunday School Class. She was the daughter of the late James Oliver and Sallie Clementine Roberts Hembree and the wife of the late Ralph Buckner who died December 23, 2001 and was also preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Jewell, Charles and Glen Hembree. Surviving are her sons, Bruce Buckner and wife Judy of Elkin and Dale Buckner and wife Ann of Canton; granddaughters, Rachael and Joanna Buckner; grandson, Greg Raxter and wife Karla and great granddaughter, Megan Raxter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Mt. Carmel Baptist church with the Revs. Ronnie Owen and John Bussard officiating. Burial will be in the Sluder Cemetery.
