Gilbert "Gil" Carlson

Asheville - Gilbert E Carlson - aged 76, loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather passed away September 29, 2021. His parents, Rev. Robert T and Z Adalene Carlson, and oldest daughter, Lisa Carlson Croteau, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Linda Carlson, and two sons, David (Rachael) Carlson, Brian (Christie) grandchildren Selah and Isaac Carlson, son-in-law Michael, grandchildren Kelly, and Jordan Croteau, sister Wilma (Rev. Ronald) Priest, brother Rev. Robert (Susan) Carlson, brother-in-law Rev. Thomas (Beverly) Kelly, sister-in-law Jeanie (Rev. John) King and many nephews and nieces. Gil was born March 26, 1945 in Margaretville, NY. He was baptized in the Christian faith as a young man and confirmed in Emmanuel Lutheran Church on March 24, 2013. He learned to fly at the age of 16, receiving his first private pilot license, beginning a lifelong passion for flying. He later became a member of the AOPA. He graduated Bob Jones University with a BS in Broadcast Engineering. While at BJU, he met Linda Kelly and they were married in 1966. He was a lifelong Gospel Magician, a skill acquired from his father. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians and regularly shared the Gospel through his magic. He made his career as an Electronics Engineer where his work has been patented multiple times. One of the highlights of their 55 years together was the 10 years Gil and Linda served as missionaries and church planters among the urban poor in North St Louis, MO. Most recently, he served as an elder for Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he was a member. He will be greatly missed by family and community. Service on October 9 at 11am followed by visitation and reception at Emmanuel Lutheran Church 51 Wilburn Pl, Asheville, NC 28806 Rev. Michael McFarland and Rev. Jeffrey Hober will be officiating.
