Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Sams

Woodfin – Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Sams, 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at his residence while surrounded by family.


A native of Elizabethton, TN, he was a son of the late Edgar and Callie Sams. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Mary Nell Carroll, Helen Sams, J.L. Sams and wife Nancy, Floyd Sams, Georgie Blevins, and Dorothy Sams; and great-grandson, Cole Roberts.


Mr. Sams was a member of Connection Point Church of God since 1974 and was a founding member of Men and Women of Action Ministry where he served as a missionary on well over 100 mission trips around the world spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He retired from building houses and then went to work for the Grove Park Inn as their Master Carpenter for his final 12 years of work until his retirement in 2001. In addition to Mr. Sams love and service to his Lord and Savior, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, he will be greatly missed.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Markland Sams; children: Dennis Sams, Donna Roberts and husband Stewart, and Linda Woodby; grandchildren: Natalie Sams, Nicole Sams Warren and husband Alex, Justin Sams and wife Lauren, Alysia Sams Wilson and husband Bill, Mark Roberts, Rachel Roberts, Tiffany Woodby, Bethany Moore and husband Robert, and Charlie Woodby; great-grandchildren: Israel McKinney, Kayla McKinney, Jadon McClain, Avery McClain, Joseph Wilson, Madison Wilson, Skyler Roberts, Scarlet Roberts, Ethan Roberts, Eadie Roberts, Farrah Lasher, Seth Moore, Bailey Moore, Luke Moore, Jillian Warren, and Benjamin Warren; brother, Bob Sams and wife Sylvia; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Asher officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.


The family will receive friends from 12 till 1 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.


Pallbearers will be Mark Roberts, Israel McKinney, Kolbie Gross, Robert Moore, Alex Warren, and Skyler Roberts.


In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Connection Point Church of God, 142 Elk Mountain Road, Asheville, NC 28804.


Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is honored to serve the Sams family.
