Gerald "Jerry" Johnston

Marshall - Gerald Wayne Jerry Johnston, 57, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday November 3, 2009 at the Asheville VA Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, he had lived in Madison County for the past six years. He retired from the U.S. Navy and was a very proud Vietnam veteran. He was a member of Mars Hill VFW Post # 5483 and the American Legion. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and attended California Creek Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Perry Wesley and Louise Penley Clark and was also preceded in death by a son, Little Jerry Johnston. Surviving are his Fiancee, Judy Wallin of Marshall; son, Tim Johnston and wife Jennifer of Fairview; step son, Eddie Wallin and wife Jennifer of Marshall; grandchildren, Austin Allen Johnston, Tommy and Aamira Rickerson and Edward, Samuel, Joshua and Jay Anna Wallin; sisters, Mary Lou Carter, Betty Jo Hyatt and Hazel Wright all of Asheville; brothers, Larry Johnston of Asheville and David Johnston of Gafney, SC and several other extended family members. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Josh McDevitt, Rev. Wesley Pike and Mr. Dale Evans officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery with military rites provided by Mars Hill VFW Post #5483. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
