Georgia Caldwell Nielsen

Leicester – Georgia Caldwell Nielsen, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2024, at her residence while surrounded by family.

A native of Spring Creek, she resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Wallace Lawrence Caldwell and Irene Betsy Messer Caldwell, and the great granddaughter of the late Levi Caldwell, Sr. of Cataloochee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Andrew Nielsen; and siblings: Clyde Caldwell of Newport News, VA, Weaver Caldwell of Newport News, VA, Billy Caldwell of Asheville, Juanita Waldroup of High Point, NC, and Mildred Kate Fowler of Spring Creek.

Georgia was a longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church. She worked for Mars Manufacturing / White Knight where she was employed for 24 years, rising to the position of Production Supervisor before retirement in the 1990’s.

Surviving are her children: Rick Sharpe and wife Karen of Mars Hill, Sharon Motley and husband Clyde of Candler, Vickie Lingle and husband Dale of Lenoir, and Brenda Bassett of Gate City, VA; step-children: Kenny Nielsen and wife Lorraine of Malabar, FL, Karen Naberhaus and husband Terry of Merritt Island, FL, Kay McGinnis and husband Jim of Melbourne, FL, and Keith Nielsen and wife Jenai of Melbourne, FL; sisters: Betty Keppner, and Viola Burris; fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Townsend officiating. Burial will follow at the Flats of Spring Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM till 12 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
