George R. Back

Fairview George Rudolph Back, 89, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Staunton, VA, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1966 and attended Spring Mountain Baptist Church. He retired in 1989 from CII following 19 years of service and retired in 1969 from the US Army following 20 years of service, having served during the Korean and Vietnam War. He was a son of the late Robert Lloyd and Emma King Cason Back and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Merlin and Dick Back and two sisters, Margie Gulley and Nancy Gaines. Surviving are his wife, Ora James Sales Back whom he married June 15, 1954; daughters, Susan Back of Weaverville and Janey B. Hollifield and husband Corky of Fairview; son, George R. Back, II and wife Jane of Candler; grandchildren, Kelly Marlowe and husband Jonathan, Amanda Hylemon and husband James and Timothy Back; great grandson, Logan Marlowe; sister, Bonnie Jean Hanger and husband John; brothers, Charles Back, Frank Back and wife Dot and Marvin Back and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 5, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery with full military honors to be conducted by the NC National Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
