George Peter Spaanbroek

December 12, 1931 — September 25, 2004

Asheville - George Peter Spaanbroek, 72, of Asheville, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Asheville, he was a 1949 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High school and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. He retired from Dupont in Kinston, NC. Mr. Spaanbroek was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church, and a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Spaanbroek was the son of the late Gerrit and Marianne Spaanbroek. Surviving are his wife, Mary Spaanbroek; his children: Angie Schuster and husband Doug of Arden and Steve Spaanbroek and fianc Susan Vehse of Greenville, NC; his grandchildren: Ryan, Megan and Courtney Schuster of Arden; his sisters: Henny Caldwell of Asheville and Jacque Jordan and husband Edward of Alexandria, VA; his brother, Leo Spaanbroek and wife Jean of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday in Green Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Arnie Corriher officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special appreciation to the physicians and staff of Mountain Kidney Associates and the DaVita Kidney Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Skyland United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 697, Skyland, NC 28776, or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
