George Peter Spaanbroek

Asheville - George Peter Spaanbroek, 72, of Asheville, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Asheville, he was a 1949 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High school and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. He retired from Dupont in Kinston, NC. Mr. Spaanbroek was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church, and a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Spaanbroek was the son of the late Gerrit and Marianne Spaanbroek. Surviving are his wife, Mary Spaanbroek; his children: Angie Schuster and husband Doug of Arden and Steve Spaanbroek and fianc Susan Vehse of Greenville, NC; his grandchildren: Ryan, Megan and Courtney Schuster of Arden; his sisters: Henny Caldwell of Asheville and Jacque Jordan and husband Edward of Alexandria, VA; his brother, Leo Spaanbroek and wife Jean of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday in Green Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Arnie Corriher officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special appreciation to the physicians and staff of Mountain Kidney Associates and the DaVita Kidney Center.
