George Mccoy Lanning Sr.

Asheville - George McCoy Lanning, Sr., 74, of 135-B Lookout Road died Sunday, October 13, 2002 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired from Burlington Industries after 20 years of service and was a member of Hoopers Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Lanning was a son of the late Walter Dexter Lanning and Ida Ethel Johnson Lanning and was also preceded in death by his sons, James and Jesse Lanning. Surviving are his wife Daisy Agnes Raines Lanning of the home; daughter, Anne Bradley of Asheville; sons, George McCoy Lanning Jr. of Columbus, David Michael Lanning of Fletcher and Ricky Joe Lanning of Swannanoa; brothers, Sebern Lanning and Dexter Lanning both of Asheville; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs Jack R. Gassaway and Bobby Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
