Asheville - George Duff Lynch, 97, of 9 Locust Street passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He retired as a Draftsman and following his retirement, he was employed at Wells Fargo. He, along with his wife, was the oldest charter member of Elkwood United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, served on numerous Boards and was a charter member of the United Methodist Men. He was also active with the Boy Scouts, a member of the Woodfin Senior Citizens, a published poet and writer, an avid tennis player, having played in several local tournaments, and an avid outdoorsman of which he enjoyed bow hunting, fishing and swimming. Mr. Lynch was a son of the late Dr. James Madison Lynch and Ann Imboden Duff Lynch. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James M. Lynch, Jr. and sisters, Betty Williams Ralls and Ann Duff Parker. Surviving are his wife, Alice Wilson Lynch, whom he married February 23, 1943, of the home; sister, Myra Peyton Rogers of Asheville; brother, Ridgeway T. Lynch of Fairview and numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday at Elkwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Glenda Edney, Rev. George Davis and Rev. Enoch G. Ball, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Churchyard. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services in the church fellowship hall.
