George Ernest "Buck" Penland

George Buck Ernest Penland, 55, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Angel Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, he had resided in Macon County for the past five years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving brother and was loved by everyone. Buck was the son of the late Ernest McClelland Penland and Thursey Mae Bowman Penland and was also preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Fisher. Surviving are his sisters, Rose Ann Mashburn (Dayton) of Franklin, Ernestine Cooper (Junior) of Candler, Margie Sams of Asheville and Kathy McGee of Candler; Aunt Betty of Wilkesboro and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 11, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Rawls and Rev. Morris Tippett officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his nephews and honorary pallbearers will be his great nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
