Weaverville George Thomas Bowman, 66, of 12 Rice Cove Road, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. George grew up a humble country boy living on a farm in Cookeville, TN. He began working and helping to provide for his family at age 12. He has been a native of Asheville since age 18 where he met the love of his life, Shirley, at Bucks Drive-In, sporting his convertible GTO. George had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. He began working various jobs until he founded his own business, Bowman Grading in 1971 which became Excavation Specialist of Weaverville, NC. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend and was admired by all who knew him. He enjoyed working and he loved to travel, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Caleb Baptist Church and formerly attended Averys Creek Baptist Church. George was a son of the late Emmitt and Thelma Stamps Bowman and was also preceded in death by his son, Doug Boggs and brothers, Lonnie Bowman and Harvey Bowman. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Shirley Ann Gosnell Bowman of the home; sons, Danny Bowman and wife Torri of Weaverville and Donny Boggs of Asheville; daughter, Debbie Wynne and husband Chuck of Asheville; grandchildren, Jonathan Boggs, Jennifer Boggs, Macie Boggs, Molly Bullman, Mathew Boggs, Avery Bowman, Tate Wynne, Trevor Bowman, Cyle Wynne, Emily Wynne and Gavin Bowman; great grandchildren, Kadyn, Brooklyn, Waylon and Bear and sisters, Rozelle Bridges and husband Nelson of Swannanoa and Kendra Mahan and husband Larry of Tennessee. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, July 12, 2013 at Trinity Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Bobby Fox and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the church. We find comfort in the promise of knowing he is with our Lord awaiting our glad reunion day. II Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith!
