Gene Marrow

April 5, 1943 — January 11, 2015

Leicester Eugene Coleman Gene Marrow, 71, of 24 Marrow Lane, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Universal Health Care. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1979 and along with his wife, was former Owner & Operator of Leicester General Store. In the early 60s, Mr. Marrow started his career working with Roses Dept Store until 1979 when he purchased Hal Wells Store. Following the selling of the store in 2003, he went to work full time with Ken Wilson Ford in Canton as a salesman. Mr. Marrow was also a former volunteer with the Leicester Volunteer Fire Dept, was a former member of WNC Bottle Collectors Club, served on the board of the Leicester Community Center and was a member of Newfound Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Usher. His love of life was his family, especially his grandchildren and he loved photography, working with people and all outdoor activities. Mr. Marrow was a son of the late Charles Charlie Morrow and Ella Mae Caldwell Mann. Surviving are his wife, Marsha Clark Marrow whom he married in 1963; son, Eric Marrow and wife Lisa; daughters, Kathy Alcaraz and husband Armando and Mandy Testa and husband David; grandchildren, Michael Marrow, Margaret Marrow, Brody Alcaraz and Nolan Testa; sisters, Julia Boyd, Pauline James and Clementine Sawyer; brothers, Clarence Morrow and Charles Morrow and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at Newfound Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Maynard and Rev. Robert James officiating. Burial will follow in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery.
