Gay Sluder

Asheville - Gay Sluder, 91, of Asheville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2015. A beloved lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Sluder had retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with over 38 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and had served in the US Navy for two years during World War II. Mr. Sluder was the son of the late Dennis and Macie Sluder, and was also preceded in death by brothers Denver and Dennis Rankin (DR) Sluder; sister, Marie Stanfield; and brother-in-law, James Waters. Gay is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Sluder; son, Philip (Ginger) Sluder of Rock Hill, SC; daughter, Linda Gail (George) Brooks of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Meghan Parrado and Alexandria Sluder; brother, James (Euretha) Sluder; sisters: Betty Waters and Phyllis (Harry) Black; sister-in-law, Shirley Sluder; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 16, 2015 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 1:45 PM Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 201 Mt.
