Gay M. Mcpeters

September 18, 1918 — February 12, 2002

Leicester - Gay Marvin McPeters, 83, of 1419 Newfound Rd. died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center after an extended illness. A native of Yancey County, he had lived in Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired in 1980 from American Enka as a Precision Instrument Maker and was very active in the United Textile Workers of America. A member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a US Army Veteran and was a former president of the Leicester P.T.A.. He was very concerned with the youth in his community and active in spreading the gospel. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and always felt you should do your best at everything you do. Mr. McPeters was the son of the late Charles Floyd and Myrtle England McPeters and was the husband of the late Juanita Bailey McPeters. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Alvin McPeters and Rev. Clyde McPeters, and sister, Ruby McPeters. Surviving are his daughters, Gail Jones and husband Jerry of Leicester and Sharon Owens and husband Sam of Leicester; grandchildren, Barry, Greg, and Tara Jones, and Joel, Jonathan, and Nathan Godleski; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Edith Palmer Higgins and Darlene McPeters; brother, George McPeters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Scroggs and Jackie Collins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Area Hospice, P.O.
