Asheville - Garrison William Grooms, 83, died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1931. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Madison County, was a member of the West Asheville Masonic Lodge #650, was retired from Southern Railway and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WW II. Mr. Grooms was the son of the late Walter William and Bonnie Naomi Baldwin Grooms. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Artie Vaughn, Mae Roberts and Pearl Lunsford and his brothers, Orville Grooms and Latt Gilbert Grooms. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Hensley Grooms of the home; daughter, Kim Grooms-Hoyle and husband Alvin of Asheville; sisters, Valerie Surrett of Candler and Velma Riddle of Virginia; brothers, Harry Bo Grooms of Asheville and Lawrence Harrison Grooms of Johnson City, TN; granddaughter, Stephanie Stott of Asheville; great grandson, Jordan Stott of Asheville; step grandchildren, Brent Hoyle of Asheville and Kimberly Hoyle of Hendersonville; special niece, Cathy Lee and husband Rick and their daughter Kim and son Danny. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Claude Surrett and Earl Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Randy Grooms, Rex Grooms, Alvin Grooms, Gary Surrett, Charles Trantham, and Larry Grooms. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the West Asheville Masonic Lodge # 650. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Kim and Alvin Hoyle, 100 Wicklow Dr., Asheville.
