Freida Coffey

Asheville – Freida Jeanette Smith Coffey, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the home of her granddaughter. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Coffey was the daughter of the late Larkin McKinley Smith and Eula Mae Mason Smith and wife of the Rev. Joe Bernard Coffey who died April 30, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Doris McMahan and Hazel Sanford and brother, Robert Smith. Surviving are her children, Joseph Christopher Coffey and wife Ellen of Burnsville, MN, Teresa Carol Coffey of Asheville, Rev. Jonathan Bernard Coffey and wife Christie of Weaverville and Tamara Lynne Owen and husband Jon of Leicester; grandchildren, Jennifer Helfenbein, Matthew Coffey, Leah Kuykendall, Jonathan, Joshua and Jeremy Coffey, Bethany Worley and husband Wes and Bree Dean and husband Jacob; 13 great grandchildren, including Hunter and Hayden; brothers, Thomas Smith and Gerald Smith both of Asheville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, February 5, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Ricky Wolfe and Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson officiating. Facial Mask and Social Distancing will be required. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ones favorite charity.
