Leicester – Fred Wise Ligon, Jr, 90, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the John F. Keever, Jr Solace Center. A native of Durham, he had resided in New York and California prior to moving to Buncombe County in 1990. He retired from Grumman Corporation following 41 years of service, was an avid bowler, attended Newfound Baptist Church, and was a Korean War US Navy Veteran. Mr. Ligon was the son of the late Fred Wise Ligon, Sr and Lela Mae Barbee Ligon Mrazek. He was also preceded in death by his step father, Milo Mrazek. Surviving are his wife whom he married November 16, 1991, Pearl Honeycutt Ligon of the home; step daughter, Ann Ramsey and husband, Jesse of Leicester; special granddaughter, Lisa Marie Byington and husband, Jon of Helena, MT; daughters, Sharon Mae Creasman and husband, Dennis and Holly Marie Crawford and husband, Dan all of Candler, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 12, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Brandley Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery. Although the family will not be present, Mr. Ligon will lie in state on Saturday from 2 to 4 PM at the funeral home for those who wish to visit and pay their respects.
