Fred Mcswain Wix Jr.

Asheville - Fred McSwain Wix, Jr., 83, of 42 West Oak View Rd. went home to be with Jesus Tuesday October 21, 2008 at the Asheville VA Medical Center. A resident of Buncombe County for most of his life, he was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Hominy Lodge # 491 AF and AM. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1975 having worked in Asheville and Candler. He was a son of the late Fred McSwain Wix, Sr. and Mattie Bonham Wix. he was the husband of the late Alga Vaughn Wix and Wilma Metcalf Wix. He was also preceded in death by a son, Fred Mike Wix and brothers, Hershel and Harry Wix. Surviving are his son, Steven Wix of Fletcher; sister, Jane W. Holcombe of Candler; daughter-in-law, Hope Wix of Louisville, KY; step daughters, Donna Bennett of Dry Ridge, KY and Deana Joette Webb of Asheville; granddaughter, Jane Marie Wix; aunts, Louise Brooks of Asheville and Ruth Gregory of Buffalo, SC and very special friend Sheila McCarson. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.
