WEST ASHEVILLE Frank Joseph Lanford, Sr., 91, of 164 Dorchester Avenue went to be with his Lord Friday, January 29, 2010 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a Paint Contractor, a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a former member of the West Asheville Kiwanis Club, a member of the Painters Union and former Boy Scout Master for over 20 years. Mr. Lanford was a son of the late Hubert Chesley Lanford and Mary Ann Hughes Lanford and husband of Eloise Gentry Lanford who died August 4, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Howard & Hubert Lanford and sisters, Mary Lanford, Freddie Cote & Bertie Denton. Surviving are his daughter, Eloise Thompson and husband, Charles of Mills River; son, Frank Joseph Joe Lanford, Jr. and wife, Jane of Asheville; grandchildren, Chuck Thompson, Lisa Anderson, Susan Ferko, Carol, Frank, III & Chesley Lanford; great grandchildren, Anna Marie & Brandon Thompson, Grant & Cole Anderson. Private graveside services will be held Tuesday at Green Hills Cemetery followed by Memorial Services at 2 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Tom Sawyer and Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin, CarePartners Hospice Chaplain officiating and family memories to be presented by Lisa Anderson. The family will receive friends following services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Calvary Baptist Church, 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, N.C. 28806. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the family.
