Frances O'Shields

Asheville Frances Henrietta Whitfield OShields, 84, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the St Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a lifelong member of Central UMC. Mrs. OShields was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and attended St. Genevieves. She worked as an Executive Secretary for the Housing Authority of Asheville, was an avid gardener and enjoyed attending the Womens Bible Study at The Cove. Mrs. OShields was the daughter of the late Hal Montague Whitfield and Lula Boyd Lacey Whitfield and wife of Garland Lee OShields who died May 9, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her son, Rev. Mark OShields. Surviving are her son, Stewart OShields; daughter, Rose Anne OShields, daughters-in-law, Mary Tantillo and Lou Ann OShields and grandsons, Nathaniel OShields and Nicholas OShields whom affectionately knew her as Kitty Kat Momma. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Rob Blackburn, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Churchyard.
