Asheville Forrest Weaver Fox, 92, of Asheville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 23, 2016. Mr. Fox was a native of Buncombe County and was the son of the late John Fulton and Dessie Rice Fox. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers: Pender, Faxton, Quentin and David; and sisters: Georgia Ann Duyck, Martha Jo Galloway, Patricia Brown, and Betty Carter. Mr. Fox was a World War II veteran, and attended automotive school in Nashville, TN around 1950, where he began driving stock cars. He moved back to Asheville and continued racing at McCormick Field Speedway and the Asheville-Weaverville Speedway. Mr. Fox retired from Sayles Biltmore Bleachery following 38 years of service and ran Foxs Garage throughout the 50s and 60s. He was a member and Deacon at Emma Baptist Church. Mr. Fox was a hard worker, often being told that he worked harder by accident than most people did on purpose. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his loving wife of 69 years, June Penley Fox; sons: Steve and wife Donna, Mike, Chris, and Kerry, all of Asheville; daughter, Beverly Hughes and husband Phillip of Asheville; sister, Johnnie Hollar and husband Ray of Flat Creek; special niece, Stella Mae Evans of Weaverville; nine grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Kirk and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
