Flora Dayton Carter

January 10, 1903 — September 21, 2002

Asheville - Flora Dayton Carter, 99, of 15 Sprinkle Street, died Saturday September 21, 2002 at Mountain Area Hospice. A native of Yancey County. She had lived most of her life in Buncombe County and was a charter member of Bingham Heights Baptist Church. She retired in 1970 from Eliada Home where she served as Supervisor of the Dining Room and Kitchen for 12 years. She was a daughter of the late Thomas J and Elizabeth Louise Wilson Dayton and wife of the late Guy George Carter. She was also preceded in death by children, twin sons, Tommy and Johnny Carter, daughters, Virginia Smart, Betty Parker and Doris McDaris; several brothers and sisters, 4 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Surviving are her daughters, JoAnn Rhea and husband, Roger of Spartanburg, SC and Ethel Carland and husband, Doug of Fountain Inn, SC; son, George Carter and wife, Mary Lou of Asheville; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
