Asheville - James Everett Ball (Papaw) at the age of 98 went to join his wife, Helen, on Saturday, February 25, 2017. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather. Everett was born on March 30, 1918 in Asheville to the late Rev. Enoch Garfield Ball and Irene Westmoreland Ball. He was the seventh of 14 children. Everett and Helen met in 1937 and married on February 9, 1943. Initially, Everett ran a gas station for his brother-in-law. Then in 1958, Everett built and opened his own business, Ball's Shell Service Station. In 1965, Everett added a wrecker service and his business became Balls Towing Service. Over the many years of running his business, Everett worked with both the Shell and Texaco Companies. Everett and Helen had two children, James Richard Ball and Jo Ann Ball Jackson. At the age of 90 Everett had a heart by-pass. After the passing of Helen in 2012, Everett closed his station. He served this community for more than 70 years. Everett enjoyed his daily work, sitting in the sunshine and spending time with his family and friends. Everett is preceded in death by wife, Helen and son-in-law, Sandy Jackson (2004). He is also preceded by four brothers and six sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his son, James R. Ball (Lupe) of Milwaukee and daughter, Jo Ann Jackson of Asheville. Five grandchildren, Michael Jackson (Cynthia) of Candler, Steven Jackson (Lizzi) of Asheville, Rick Ball (Karen), Jennifer Ball (Felix), and Christina Ball (Vernesa) all of Milwaukee. There are eight great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter. Also honoring him are his brother Rev. Enoch G. Ball Jr., sisters Lillian Parris and Ruth Israel, brother-in-law Bobby Kidd and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service to be held at 2 PM Thursday, March 2, 2017, in the Chapel in Anders-Rice Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The Rev. Enoch Ball Jr. and Rev. C. Eugene Ball will officiate. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial. Family and friends will be received Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 6-8:30 PM at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses on Hall 200 at Asheville Nursing and Rehabilitative Center for the care and love they provided our Father these last few months.
