Asheville - Eva Chandler Morris, passed away peacefully at the Brian Center in Weaverville on Thursday, April 27, 2006, after a brief illness. She was born to Andrew Jackson Chandler and Matilda Thomas Chandler in Mars Hill, N.C. on May 20, 1915. She was preceded by Hubert William (Brack) Holcombe, the love of her life, an infant son, Jerry Holcombe and her siblings: Nola Petty, Lockie Randolph, Fuschia Hawkins and Gudger Chandler. She graduated from Mars Hill High School and attended Mars Hill College and Blantons Business College. She was formerly employed by Morgan Mfg. Co. and Gorham Sterling Co.. When her children were born, she stayed at home to raise them and did not return to the workforce until after the death of her husband in 1961. She worked at Singer Kearfott Swannanoa until she retired in 1967. Eva loved to read books, an affection that was passed on to her children. She was also known for her wit, and her continuing interest in current and world events. She remained very active and independent until a stroke required her move to the Brian Center in 2004. She is survived by her children, Larry and Jeanette Holcombe of Asheville, Mike and Pam Holcombe of Asheville, her grandchildren, Michelle Merski of Boone, N.C., twin grandchildren Michael Holcombe Jr. and Michaela Holcombe of Venice, FL. Fred Robert Holcombe, of Venice, FL. and Nichole Kyle of Asheville, N.C. and special friend and companion, James Ballard of Horseshoe, N.C. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 30 at 2:30 oclock at Trinity Baptist Church, of which she was a member since 1975, Rev, Jerry Young will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church at 1:30 P.M. an hour before the service. She will be interred at Mars Hill Cemetery with Michael Holcombe, Jr., Rusty Owen, Mike Brookshire, Matthew Merski and Wayne Ballard serving as pallbearers. The family would like to express its appreciation to the entire staff of the Brian Center in Weaverville and to Mountain Area Hospice.
