Eugene Debbs "Gene" Stockton

January 24, 1923 — March 28, 2004

Candler - Eugene Gene Debbs Stockton, 81, of 1 Glencliff Road died Sunday March 28, 2004 at the Asheville V.A. Medical Center following a long period of declining health. A native of Madison County, he resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was formerly owner and operator of the Enloe-Stockton Florist in West Asheville. Mr. Stockton was also formerly employed by United Family Life Insurance Co. working through Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Groce Funeral Home. He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church where he formerly taught Sunday School, served in the U.S. Army during WWII and formerly coached Youth Baseball in West Asheville for many years. He was a life member and past Master of the Nichols West Asheville Masonic Lodge #650 and was an honorary member of Hominy Masonic Lodge # 491 and Swannanoa Masonic Lodge # 561 and was a Certified Lecturer of his Lodge. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star, Black Mountain Chapter #200. Mr. Stockton was the son of the late Robert Bernie Stockton, Sr. and Flossie Phillips Stockton. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Arvid O. Stockton and R. B. Stockton, Jr. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Boneta Enloe Stockton of the home and his son, Dr. Leon Eugene Stockton and wife Angela of Goldsboro. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. James Johnson and Rev. James Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Masonic Graveside rites conducted by Nichols - West Asheville Lodge # 650, the Lodge will open at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Monday and from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home
