Erika Martin Carmienke

Erika Emma Anna Wilhelmina Gustava Martin Carmienke, 100, of Hot Springs, NC went to her eternal home on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Aston Park Health Care Center.

Mrs. Carmienke was a native of Hamburg, Germany and came to reside in Manchester Connecticut in the 1950’s until moving to Port Orange, Florida in 1993. In 2005 she moved to Hot Springs, North Carolina with her daughter and her family.

Mrs. Carmienke began a career in nursing while serving in the German Army around 1940 after high school and continued to help those in need through nursing until retiring as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Connecticut at the age of 63.

Mrs. Carmienke was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Werner Heinrich Carmienke who passed away on July 10, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Fritz Martin and wife Cita.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Nancy Yelvington and husband Jesse of Hot Springs, NC, and Albert Carmienke and wife Kathleen of Manchester, CT; grandchildren: Sean Carmienke, Erika Yelvington, and Jessica Yelvington; brother, Jurgen Martin and wife Babel of Gielow, Germany; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A service to celebrate Mrs. Carmienke’s life will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 101 Mountain View Rd, Hot Springs, NC 28743, on Saturday, May 13, 2023, the time will be announced. Pastors Weston Justice and Bub Clark will be officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Woodland Cemetery, Port Orange, Florida.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Aston Park Health Care and FourSeasons Hospice for their care and compassion given to Mrs. Carmienke and her family.
