Emma Inez Burgin

July 2, 1917 — January 29, 2002

Asheville - Emma Inez Greene Burgin, 84, of 129 Marietta Street, died Tuesday January 29, 2002 at her home following a period of declining health. A native & resident for most of her life in Buncombe County. She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother and a school crossing guard with the city of Asheville for over 20 years. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and a 1935 Graduate of Biltmore High School. Mrs. Burgin was a daughter of the late Ernie Augustus and Lala McGalliard Greene and the wife of William Cecil Burgin, Sr. who died in 1952. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Elmer R. Greene. Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Sheehan of Asheville; sons, William C. Burgin and Jack A. Burgin both of Asheville; sister, Elizabeth Collins of Ormond Beach, Fl.; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Ian Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: Biltmore Baptist Church, Homebound Ministry, 35 Clayton Road, Arden, N.C. 28704.
