Elzie P. "Bud" Rymer

September 6, 1910 — January 11, 2007

ALEXANDER Elzie Phillip Bud Rymer, 96, formerly of Old #20, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation & Care Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was the son of the late Alcie Jerome and Lina Lou Emily Frisbee Rymer and the husband of the late Eva Virginia Horton Rymer and the late Isabel McDonald Rymer. He was also preceded in death by his great grandson, Clifton Davenport, three sisters and one brother. Mr. Rymer retired in 1972 from the N.C. State Highway Department following many years of service and was former owner & operator of Buds Hobby Shop. He was the oldest male member of Macedonia Baptist Church, he loved life, had a great sense of humor, was a champion checker player, enjoyed riding motorcycles well into his 80s, building and flying model airplanes and took pride in helping to build the Fontana Dam. Surviving are his daughters, Shirley Louise Smith and husband Charles of Asheville and Judy Ann Williams and husband Jim of Alexander; son, Phillip Ray Rymer and wife Patsy of Asheville; grandchildren, Leslie Christoffel, Kena Cox (Tommy), Jodi Davenport (John), Robin Smith (Donna), Tammie Whitlock (Weaver) and Anthony Rymer (Nicole); ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
