Elsie Louise Trantham

December 3, 1924 — January 30, 2012

Asheville - Elsie Louise Trantham, 87, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2012. Elsie was a long time resident of Hartsville, South Carolina, born there on December 3, 1924. After graduating from Coker College, she spent a few years working as a teacher before beginning her career with the American Red Cross. Elsie spent her life caring for others. Wesley United Methodist Church and its members were like family to Elsie. Upon retirement from The Red Cross, Elsie volunteered there and remained active in her church and community in Hartsville. In 1997, Elsie packed up and moved to Asheville, North Carolina, to be near family. She resided at Givens Estates where she actively participated in the residential living community for twelve years. In 2009, Elsie was admitted to the Givens Health Center, where she continued to "walk the halls" until just recently. Elsie's Southern accent was so admired at Givens, where she developed many friendships while performing various volunteer activities on campus, as well as The Red Cross in Asheville. Elsie joined Biltmore United Methodist Church in Asheville and shared her vast knowledge of the Bible with others as a Sunday School Teacher. Elsie has always held a special place in the hearts of her friends and family, and we will miss her so very much. The Lord truly was her shepherd, so we know she has found peace and happiness. A memorial service will be held in Hartsville in March. Memorials may be made to the Residence Assistance Fund at Givens Estate, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
