Asheville - Elizabeth Jane Watkins Myers, 90, went home to be with the Lord and her loving husband, William Orville Myers, Sr. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. There is celebration in Heaven! She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lucinda Watkins of Woodfin. She was the first Secretary of West Buncombe Elementary School, retiring in 1985 after 25 years of service. She dedicated her life to the Lord, her family and her church. She served her Lord as the Buncombe Baptist Association Discipleship Church Training Director for 28 years. At the annual meeting of the Buncombe Baptist Association on October 10, 1989, she gave the following statement: My cup has overflowed with blessings and joy these past 28 years that I have served as your Church Training Director. I want to thank you all for your prayers and the support that you have given me. She loved serving. Her life was a godly witness for all who knew her. She was a living example of the Proverbs 31 woman. She was always found faithful in the Lord. Surviving are her children, William O. Myers, Jr. Skip and wife Alice, Phyllis Myers Davis and husband Don and Miriam Myers Metcalf and husband Charlie; sisters, Marie Clontz and Bernette Chambers. She was very proud of her six grandchildren, Bill Myers and wife Amy, Missy Setzer and husband Eric, Cameron Gosnell and wife Kimberly, Bethany Gosnell Metts, Mitzi Metcalf Reece and husband Matt and Scott Metcalf and wife Crystal; three great-granddaughters with one on the way and three great-grandsons. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved very much. The celebration of Elizabeths life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Gayle Brown and Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home. We want to thank the staff at Asheville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who have become a second family. Also, thank you to those who visited her, sent her cards of cheer and kept us in your prayers over these past few years. A special thank you to Rev. Stan Welch who took time to visit and pray with her. Because of her love for missions, we ask that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to: West Asheville Baptist Church, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, N.C. 28806, designated for Annie Armstrong or Lottie Moon Missions, as these were dear to her heart.
