Asheville - Edwin Griffin, 81, of 25 Winding Rd. died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at his residence. A native of Madison County, he had lived in Buncombe County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Gaither and Rebecca Shelton Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a member of Biltmore Church of God, was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WW II, and was a retired from Sayles Bleacheries after 43 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Maude Flynn Griffin of the home; son, Steve Griffin and wife Alice of Asheville; daughter, Linda Griffin of Asheville; grandchildren, Steve E. Griffin, Torri Griffin Bowman, and Michael E. Griffin all of Asheville; great grandchildren, Avery and Trevor Bowman of Asheville; brothers, Wiley Griffin of Asheville and Grover Griffin of Zepher Hill, Florida; special friend, Jeff Barnett and wife April; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in the Biltmore Church of God with the Revs. Daniel Allen and Marjorie Allen officiating. Burial will be in Pattys Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Taylor, Steve E. Griffin, Wesley McFee, Lawrence Henson, Coy Johnson, Danny Bowman, Mike Williams and Rick Scarborough. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
