Asheville – Edwin Cole Wilson, 88, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the N.C. State Veterans Home in Black Mountain. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Olson Marion Wilson and Gwendolyn Martha Cole Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Parham Wilson; brothers, Charles Reeves Wilson and Van Marion Wilson; and sister-in-law Maribeth Brown Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member and deacon of Newfound Baptist Church. He retired following 32 years of service from Gerber Products Company in Skyland. He was also a lifetime member of the Erwin District Lions Club and a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 100. Surviving are his son, Phillip E. Wilson and wife Angela of Northville, MI; grandchildren: Phillip Hamilton Wilson of Grand Rapids, MI, and Meredith Olivia Wilson of Asheville; sister, Cloria Stroupe and husband Paul of Murphy; sister-in-law, Virginia Green Wilson of Asheville; and nieces and nephews: Kimberly Congdon, Paul Douglas Stroupe II, Kathy Collins, and Jacquelyn Leigh Higgins. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Newfound Baptist Church with Pastor Bradley Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military funeral honors will be conducted by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm to 2:30pm at the church prior to services.
