Georgetown, SC Edith Jeanette McPeters Palmer Higgins, 87, former resident of Asheville for most of her life passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2007. Mrs. Higgins was a native of Yancey County and resided in Buncombe County most of her life before moving to South Carolina in 1999 to be with her daughter. She retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse following 40 years of service and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Mrs. Higgins was a member the Ladies Auxillary of the VFW Post # 3040, the LPN State & Federal Associations, the Christian Womens Association of Asheville and served as a volunteer in several of our local Nursing Homes. Mrs. Higgins was a daughter of the late Charles Floyd McPeters and Myrtle England McPeters and wife of the late John C. Palmer and Roy Higgins. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Rev. Alvin Woodrow McPeters, Rev. Clyde William McPeters and Gay Marvin McPeters. Surviving are her daughters, Reta Simpson and husband Jimmy of Georgetown, SC and Gwenda Pace and husband Guy of Merritt Island, FL; 3 grandchildren, Jon Pace and wife Kelly of St. Petersburg, FL, Dwaine Simpson and wife Woody of Ashland, ME and Pam Steel of Merritt Island, FL; 4 great grandchildren, Jackie & Jesse Pace, Brooke Edenfield and Eric Steel; several nieces and nephews and many loving friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home
