Asheville Edith Esther Sollmann went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the WNC Baptist Home. She was born on a farm outside of Kettlersville, Ohio on April 13, 1913 to Ben and Elsie Sollmann. When her father died in 1918, Elsie married Henry Becker. They lived in Kettlersville where she attended a one room school house a mile from Kettlersville for 8 years. She graduated from Anna High School in 1931 and from Lima Business College in 1933. She worked with her father and for a Real Estate Agency while they lived in Glen Ellyn, IL. When the family moved to Asheville, she worked for Bledsoe Real Estate Company and then went to Missionary Training Institute (now Nyack College) and served as Accountant for the college. She returned to Asheville in 1953 when her stepfather died and worked for the Presbyterian Journal and for the Presbytery of Asheville until she retired in 1982. She moved to the WNC Baptist Home in 2005. She was a member of the Cornerstone Church, 12 S. French Broad. She was a loving sister and aunt. Edith was preceded in death by her mother, stepfather and brother, Dr. David H. Becker. She is survived by a sister, Lula Becker Shields and husband James of Asheville; sister-in-law, Edna Becker of Asheville; 6 nephews, Mark Shields of Pittsburgh, PA, David Shields and wife Rhonda of Swannanoa, Phillip Shields of Asheville, David Becker, Jr. of Key Largo, FL, Timothy Becker and wife Rebecca of Candler and Andrew Becker of Asheville. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Hober officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in New Bremen, Ohio. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cornerstone Church, 12 S. French Broad Avenue, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
