Edith Benfield

West Asheville Edith Ward Benfield, 79, of 58 Hubbard Avenue, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center. A native of Transylvania County, Mrs. Benfield had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She was formerly employed with Kellwood Mfg and was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late William Fletcher Ward and Ethel Sprouse Ward and was the wife of Billy Eugene Benfield who died June 2, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ann Davis and brother, James A. Ward. Surviving are her son, Bill Benfield and wife Rebecca of Woodfin; grandsons, Shawn Benfield and wife Jayme of Weaverville and Joshua Benfield and wife Leslyn of Mooresville; great grandchildren, Abeni and Macee of Weaverville and Titus and Eden of Mooresville; sisters, Stella Burke and husband Jim of West Asheville and Dorothy Reece of Candler and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in the chapel of the Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Nelson Ponder officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: CarePartners Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813. The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Emerald Ridge and CarePartners Hospice for their part in her journey.
