Edith Barrett

February 18, 1931 — August 23, 2010

Asheville - Edith McGhee Barrett, known affectionately as Meemaw, 79, of 103 Charlotte Hwy went to be with her Lord Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Laurels of Greentree Ridge. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was a homemaker, devoted & loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was a lifelong member of Gashes Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU, TEL Sunday School Class and was a long time Director of the Nursery. Mrs. Barrett was the daughter of the late Columbus Lum McGhee and Altha Marie Penley McGhee and wife of Jack Barrett who died August 27, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur McGhee, Frank McGhee and Joe McGhee and sisters, Mildred Snelson and Helen Hensley. Surviving are her sons, Michael Barrett & wife Sherry of Asheville, Kyle Barrett & wife Angie of Fairview; granddaughters, Chrisna & Diana Barrett both of Asheville and Mackenzie & Morgan Barrett both of Fairview; sisters, Margaret Collins of Marshall, Faye Davis and Altha Langford both of Asheville; brothers, Vernon McGhee and Robert McGhee both of Asheville; several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Gashes Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
