Asheville - Dr. James "Chip" Morgan, Jr., 49, of 623 Forest Rd., Asheville, died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Jane Kessler Morgan and the late James Sill Morgan Sr. After graduating from Trinity College in Connecticut he earned his MD degree from Cornell University School of Medicine in New York. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He has been a partner with the Asheville Gastroenterology Associates since moving to Asheville 12 years ago. Chips first love was his wife and family, Rebbecca Becky Stein Morgan, daughters, Liza Morgan and Rachael Morgan, sons, Sam Morgan and Christopher Morgan, all of the home, Brother, Jeff R. Morgan and wife Meg of New Jersey also survive him. Chip loved dearly to see the Gospel of Christ shared with people around the world. To that end, he and his family regularly traveled to Honduras for missions projects. Even as recently as December, while suffering from terminal cancer, he traveled through China studying various mission projects. For several years he served as a member of the boards of World Magazine and Latin America Mission Projects. Chip also served locally as an elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church until his death. He fought valiantly to the end, trusting in the sovereignty of God and His Word, his favorite verse being O death, where is your victory? But thanks be to God, He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. A private burial service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard on Tuesday, July 24. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Arden Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Jeff Hutchinson, William Laxton, and Donnie Williams officiating. A reception will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
