Asheville - William “Bill” Cave passed away July 31 2021 at the age of 84 surrounded by his beloved family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elaine Joyce Cave, and daughters Kelly Anne (Philip Sanzica) and Sue Anne (Mike Marshall). Bill was born and raised in Huntington, WV and was the son of the late Preston and Nellie Cave. After serving in the Navy, he graduated from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. In 1964, Bill started his dental practice in Asheville with Dr. Joe B. Roberson, where he practiced for 42 years. Among his many professional accomplishments were installing the first implant-supported denture in Western North Carolina in 1969, many nationally recognized dental innovations, and mentoring numerous other dentists on dental and problem-solving techniques culminating with his being honored as a Mentor at the prestigious Kois Center in Seattle WA. He treasured the deep friendships he enjoyed with his patients, staff, other dental practitioners, and countless others. In addition to dentistry, Bill’s passions included flying airplanes, his time as a football and wrestling official, snow skiing, sailing, spending time at the Cave home in Isle of Palms SC, the many family pets, and traveling the world with family and friends. He will be missed for his love of life, dedication to helping others, and his humor. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Friday, August 6, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Jerry Grant and Mike Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S.
