Douglas Ray Jones

Leicester - Douglas Ray Jones, 59, of 124 Smith Rd. died Monday, January 26, 2004 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center following a long illness. A native of Cherokee County, NC. He had resided in Buncombe County since 1979. Mr. Jones was formerly employed with Paving Enterprise and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Jack and Ruth Barker Jones and was also preceded in death by a brother, Howard Jones formerly of Nantahala. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Gregory Jones of the home; son, Kevin Ray Jones and wife, Liz of Wilson, Wyoming; daughter, Stacey Robin Allen and husband, Pete of Barnardsville; grand daughters, Cassidy and Lauren Allen; brothers, Carroll Jones, Dick Jones and Donald Jones all of Andrews and Gary Jones of Hayesville. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Scroggs and Rev. Jackie Collins officiating. Pallbearers will be his four brothers, son in law and special friend, Gordon Terry. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Baker Squad of the Buncombe County Sheriffs Department. The family will receive friends following the services Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Friday at Valleytown Cemetery in Andrews.
