Doug is the name he went by growing up in Marion. He grew up on a small farm known to us as John Duncan Hill. John Duncan was a good friend to our family. At the age of 11, the family moved to a house in a small town of Jack Town in Marion – area now known as Proctors Knoll. Sometime later, Doug and family moved to a house off Hwy 221 South until moving to Fairview where he lived until his death. Doug did not complete high school; however, he found work working with family members throughout his adult life doing odd jobs. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, raising chickens and raising a small veggie garden. Doug lost not only his best friend but his cousin, Stanly McPeters a few years back. Doug just couldn’t get over losing his family, and his best friend in such a short time of each other. Later his sister stepped in after Doug developed serious medical conditions. She got him the professional medical help he needed. After a few years, Doug was no longer able to live by himself. He was moved to a skilled nursing facility located in Fairview up until his death at the age of 70. The family would like to send their gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and CNAs who assisted Doug during his last days on this earth. I will always remember my brother, Doug, for the compassion he had shown to others, and the kind heart and love for his family and friends”. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
