Asheville - Dorothy Dot Freeman Hensley, 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center. Born September 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Isaac T. Freeman and Polly Meadows Freeman. She was a native of the Leicester area of Buncombe County and grew up in the Emma section of Asheville. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Hensley; brothers, Bunyan, Jack, Clyde, Major, Weaver and Doyle Freeman and sisters, Robbie Jones, Hazel Cook and Edith Reed. She graduated from Emma High School in 1943. After World War II she met her future husband, Wilburn, when he returned from the Marines. They were married in Asheville in 1950 and lived together in the Erwin Hills area of Buncombe County until Wilburns death in 2008. Dorothy had a long career with the federal government at the National Weather Records Center in downtown Asheville. She retired in 1996 after serving for more than 40 years. Dorothy kept flowers blooming all summer at her house. She enjoyed putting on her jeans and planting, weeding and trimming in her flowerbeds. She also had a big lawn that she kept mowed. She spent the last years of her life at Fleshers Healthcare where she enjoyed making new friends. She also liked the activities and trips she got to take with the other residents. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marjorie Freeman and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Pisgah View Memorial Park with Rev.
